It’s time to eat up. Not necessarily with food, mind you, as that day is coming soon enough. Madden Mobile isn’t waiting until Thursday, though, unleashing the Madden Feast to get you fully prepared for Thanksgiving.

As with most of Madden Mobile’s seasonal events, Madden Feast features brand new elite players who can really take your team to the next level. Especially enticing are the Feastmaster players: special versions of Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders and Calvin Johnson who can be upgraded to 94 overall cards that also boost the stats of the other players on your team.

You’ll want to get cracking on the Madden Feast now to have a chance at them, so here’s what you need to know to fill up on this special brand of Thanksgiving goodness.

How the Madden Feast Live Events Work

Bring your appetite? Good. The Madden Feast events are centered around food, and namely three different courses with three food items each: Main Course (Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes), Kid’s Table (Chicken Nuggets, Hot Dog, Mac & Cheese) and Dessert (Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie). You can win them in their corresponding Blitz events that reset every four hours.

You’ll also want to check the old tube TV in the Madden Feast event area for a special Live Event that lasts only a few minutes at a time and rewards you with Mystery Casserole cards with every win. Similar to the Prismatic Badges from the Color Rush promotion, these can take the place of any food item in sets.

Finally, you’ll also get the chance to play First Serving and Second Serving event chains that grant you even more food. You’ll definitely want to take advantage of these when they pop up.

How to Get Elite Madden Feast and Feastmaster Players

Madden Feast has its own tab in the ‘Sets’ menu, with a variety of sets that all work using the food items. We won’t detail all of them here, but the idea is that you get Gold Madden Feast players from various sets and then use them to obtain Elite Madden Feast and Feastmaster players.

There are three different types of Elites up for grabs over the holiday season:

• Elite Madden Feast players – There are 10 different Elites, ranging from an 80 OVR Quinton Spain to an 89 OVR Jordan Howard.
• Feastmasters – As noted above, Feastmasters start out as 80 OVR but have additional sets you can complete to upgrade them to 86 OVR, 91 OVR or 94 OVR versions that also grant stats bonuses to your entire team. It takes 10 of a specific type of Madden Feast food item and 10 of any Madden Food items to unlock the base versions, but you’ll need additional Gold or Elite Madden Feast players and a whole bunch of food to grab those more powerful iterations.
• S.T.U.F.D. players – Even better variations of S.T.A.C.K.D. players that give bonuses to each other, there are three S.T.U.F.D. players offered during Madden Feast: 90 OVR Jadeveon Clowney, Marcell Dareus and Bobby Wagner. A special set allows you to trade three Elite Madden Feast players for one of these stud defenders.

Additional rewards during Madden Feast include a Gold and Elite defensive unit, classic Cowboys and Lions jerseys and more. Hope you’re hungry, because it appears the Madden Feast events will only run through Thanksgiving weekend, so they should be your main focus from now until all the leftover turkey is gone.

Turn 10 studios has done a phenomenal job with the details: cars, interiors and track. You can see every nuance in every car, details in each reflection and tiny pellets of rubber as they fly off the road. Where the game really shines is the dynamic weather effects. You can see minute details in the weather as the atmosphere (skies, roads, nature elements, reflections) changes from a cloudy day to a rainy night. After a downpour, puddles form on the road and if your car drives over one, it impacts speed and direction like it would in the real world. We can’t wait to see how the game looks on the Xbox One X in true 4k when it launches.

Unlike its predecessors, Motorsport 7 gets rid of a race-based grading system. Instead, it now works on a point based system. You have to earn points playing the game to progress forward. In career mode, cars are segregated into tiers – as you play through the tier, you earn points. Once you have enough points, you can unlock the next tier which lets you access a new set of cars. This gives the game a different gameplay approach – one that keeps it from becoming just another racing game where you have to finish races to move up the ladder quickly.

So if you have a favorite car from previous Forza games, you will have to play through the career mode, reach that tier and only then can you own it. Like the previous games, Motorsport 7 also gives you a plethora of customization options to tune and deck up your car. It is undoubtedly the best racing game on the Xbox platform and a must have for any Xbox One owner.

FIFA 18 Fans are Using Terrible Players to “exploit” the AI

A new FIFA Ultimate Team “exploit” has emerged that some players reckon can’t be fixed.

FIFA 18 introduced a new FUT mode called Squad Battles. This lets you play computer-controlled teams for FIFA Coins and points that determine your ranking on the global leaderboard. At the end of the week, your ranking determines your rewards. The higher your ranking, the better the rewards, which can be considerable.

EA Sports restricts the number of Squad Battles matches you can play each week, and your overall placement is determined by the overall number of points you earn. So, you need to make the most of the matches you’ve got. That’s why players want to play on the hardest difficulty – appropriately called Ultimate – because that difficulty grants the most points.

4Onto the “exploit” (I wrap “exploit” in air quotes because there’s a debate about whether it should be called an “exploit”, which I’ll get to later). Players have found if they have a few bad (bronze) quality players in their team and use them to shield the ball from the computer, they can slow walk their way into a scoring position or convince the apparently impatient AI to commit a foul, which potentially leads to getting a few opposition players sent off. In short, the feeling is that bronze players are a bit broken in FIFA 18.

It’s not clear why exactly this tactic appears to be effective, but it may have something to do with the hyper aggressive play of the AI in Squad Battles on Ultimate difficulty (which may itself be the result of all AI players being set to 99 in every attribute).

This “exploit” appears to originate from a Brazilian FIFA 18 player who uses the name “HugeGorilaa” on PlayStation 4. HugeGorilaa came to the attention of the FIFA community after FIFA YouTuber Craig “Nepenthez” Douglas (yes, the very same YouTuber who was found guilty of two charges of illegal gambling) took to Twitter to question how he scored number one in the global Squad Battles leaderboard.

Here’s where things get a little fuzzy. The FIFA community can’t decide whether this “exploit” is indeed an exploit, and so bannable under EA’s rules, or simply an effective tactic. Is it any different than using low driven shots, which appear to be the most effective way to score in FIFA 18 right now because the goalkeepers struggle with them? Is it any different than frustrating your opponent by passing the ball around at the back with no intention of playing it forward?

Meanwhile, this “exploit” is spreading across the FIFA community, with YouTube tutorial videos popping up and Reddit threads enthusiastically discussing how it works. It’s no surprise to see this happening – Squad Battles on Ultimate difficulty is insanely hard.

NHL 18 Review: After 6 Weeks With The Game

Over the past few weeks, I’ve put a good amount of hours into playing NHL 18. It’s the latest edition in EA Sports’ annual hockey sim franchise, and if you’ve played one of the recent ones, many parts of NHL 18 will be familiar to you. The developers at EA Canada have made some good progress in filling out the game since it’s unacceptably spare launch on PS4 and Xbox One a few years ago, but the game still doesn’t quite live up to its potential as the only console hockey game out there.

One aspect of this review which, in my opinion, reflects an issue with the game’s development is that I play primarily offline. I’ve dabbled in EASHL and HUT over the years, but the high bar for competition makes playing online, at least if you want to do well, demanding in a way that’s reminiscent of hardcore shooters like Call of Duty. You either play a lot, or you get your butt kicked by people who do.

So I play primarily single player, and it’s clear EA can be strained in putting the proper resources to those modes along with a robust online game. The game is much better than it was years ago, but it’s still nowhere near as detailed as more popular franchises like Madden or FIFA. Between an annual release schedule and the need to develop online and offline modes, you can see how it’s difficult for everything to get the love it deserves.

Anyway, those are some broad thoughts on the future of the franchise, but NHL 18 is still a game worth playing if you’re into hockey. Let’s go over some positives and negatives, focusing mainly on single-player stuff.

The gameplay in general feels good

This is the main thing EA Canada nailed from the start of the transition to this generation of consoles, and the game still feels really good. The physics are impressive, the goaltending is much more realistic than older games, and it still captures the speed that differentiates NHL from its FIFA brethren.

Player ratings make way more sense

They’re not quite perfect, but the effort to make ratings more sensible this year has been a boon for franchise mode. There are way fewer players in the 82-88 range, and that makes elite players stand out in a more realistic way. There’s a wider talent gap in the NHL than the old ratings system had.

This also goes for developing prospects in franchise mode. You can now easily pick players in the top five of the draft who will become superstars in short order, just like we see in the real NHL. That used to be more difficult in the old game, and it was never really clear why certain players would reach their potential while others didn’t. The development system isn’t as good as in Madden’s franchise mode, where your on-field effort directly corresponds to increases in players’ ratings, but developing a team through the draft is much more satisfying in NHL 18 than before.

Also, you can now turn off notifications for your scout asking where to go. You used to have to do this every six weeks in the sim and it was a pain.

Threes is a blast

One of the issues with the game’s move toward hardcore sim gameplay is that it’s made the game less accessible for people who just want to pick up and play. Threes is EA’s solution to that, and it’s a great way to hop into a hockey game with friends who haven’t played NHL in years without skipping a beat. It’s essentially NHL Arcade Mode. It’s good.

How to Make a Great Card Deck in Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team Mode

Though many Madden fans focus primarily on Franchise mode, there’s another significant and fun playing option in Madden NFL 18 — the card-based mode, called Madden Ultimate Team (MUT). First added in Madden NFL 10, the core premise of Madden Ultimate Team is simple: Collect player cards to fill out, and create a fantasy roster that can crush any other.

Ultimate Team has evolved in notable and exciting ways over the years, and you can find an enormous amount of depth in assembling and tweaking a juggernaut squad. It’s more complicated than the rest of Madden, and can be a bit daunting for new players. To that end, we’ve put together an explainer that breaks down each component of this year’s Ultimate Team mode. While seasoned veterans may know much of this, Ultimate Team works a little differently in Madden NFL 18, so you may still find valuable information here as you embark on your quest.

Overall levels

For starters, Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team features a team-wide leveling system. As you progress through solo challenges and head-to-head matches, each player will gain MUT experience points that increase your rank. You’re always gaining experience in Ultimate Team, no matter what action you take. You earn rewards every time you level up. Often they’re MUT coins, but you’ll occasionally receive cards and packs, which can further improve your squad.

Overall ratings

EA Sports modified the way overall team ratings are calculated in Madden NFL 18, widening the gap between ratings. More so this year than in years past, the difference in performance between a team with a 70 rating and another rated 71 is significant. Most players, even superstar-caliber players, have relatively low ratings to start out. Our Marshawn Lynch card, for example, had a 58 overall rating. That’s extremely low for a player of that caliber. The change puts more emphasis on overall ratings. While your initial squad will feature players with ratings around 60, once you start to replace players with others with slightly better ratings of 61 or 61, your team will noticeably improve.

Card tiers

There are four versions of every standard player card in Madden Ultimate Team — Elite, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Bronze-tier players typically have ratings in the high 50s to low 60s. Silver-tier players are rated in the mid to high 60s. Gold-tier players have ratings in the low to mid 70s, and Elite tier players have ratings in the 80s.

Some cards fall outside of the standard “core” cards. There are Legends, NFL Stars, Longshot, Kickoff Challenge, and more. All of these, and others designated as NAT cards, cannot be traded to other users or auctioned off.

You can “quicksell” these types of cards for paltry amounts, but we don’t recommend ever doing that with cards. Just know that you cannot auction or trade these. To upgrade them, especially ones of the bronze and silver variety,.

Complete solo challenges

You can spend dozens of hours in Ultimate Team without ever playing a human opponent. Solo challenges place you in scenarios that, if completed, net you coins, card packs, and other items. We suggest completing some solo challenges before competing against other players. While some of the solo challenges can get a bit tedious, it’s the best way to give your team a fighting chance against human opponents without spending real money on points. EA has been adding time-specific challenges each week since launch, so there’s always more to do.

Complete Longshot mode

Madden 18‘s story mode is fantastic, and you should play it no matter what, but you definitely need to play it if you want a quick boost for your Ultimate Team. By playing Longshot, you’ll unlock cards for its protagonists, Devin Wade and Colt Cruise, who both have mid-70s ratings. Once they’re unlocked, you can play through a set of Longshot-specific solo challenges that will push their ratings even higher. You’ll also get NFL legends Dan Marino and Chad Johnson, who are both rated in the 80s. Right out of the gate, they will be your best players.

Take a look at your objectives and see the easiest ones. Keep doing the easy ones until the challenges become too time-consuming and just not worth the reward. The Auction House follows trends, so study the house and make notes on the players you require. After this keep an eye on the market so whenever a player you need is going lower than usual you can snap him up. If a player is going higher than usual and you have that player in your team then sell him for a handsome profit and use that money to buy another player or just wait for the player you sold to fall back to his average price before buying him again.

Patience is key in the Auction House, do not undersell a player and do not overbuy one either. Players are like a commodity in the Auction House, and their entire point is to make your team better while making you money. Popular players usually sell for higher so use this fact to sell them and buy players which are low key but have the same skill. Later on, you can buy your favorite players when you have enough cash.

It’s the oldest story in the book. You see someone on youtube unlock an amazing player through a pack and you go ‘Hmm, I could do that’ then you open your own pack and it’s a below average player with no ability. Opening packs is a big no-no if you want to efficiently farm MUT coins and it should be avoided at all costs unless you have some money to throw or you are a famous YouTuber. If you grind the Auction House long enough, you will get all the players you need.
