Blizzard has made some weird changes to the way players buy World of Warcraft game time. World of Warcraft is an old and popular MMORPG. On Twitter, he sarcastically replied to the news saying in all caps “THANK YOU BLIZZARD THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!”
Blizzard stresses that those who are still operating under game time purchases at the other increments will not be affected by this change, rather when it’s time to renew they’ll simply need to select the 60 day option or one of the other ways to jump into Azeroth.
Subscription pricing is unaffected, including the bundle rates you get for paying months in advance, which in the long run works out to be cheaper than just buying time upfront. However, many players tend to dip in and out of MMOs over time (WoW or otherwise), so being able to pay for smaller increments of game time is convenient for them. WoWhead speculates that this change could be a move to fight the World of Warcraft bot, which uses WoW tokens to pay for 30-day passes. Some players believe this is an activision-Blizzard revenue-boosting move and suffer from the inability to purchase a 30-day pass.
