Blizzard has made some weird changes to the way players buy World of Warcraft game time

Blizzard has made some weird changes to the way players buy World of Warcraft game time. World of Warcraft is an old and popular MMORPG. The option to purchase game time in 30-day, 90-day, and 180-day prepaid chunks has been removed, leaving only the 60-day option. However, of course, you can purchase a regular monthly subscription.

Why is World of Warcraft Game Time Changing?
One might wonder: why are these changes happening? Removing the 30-day option means that a player who wants to jump into the game without committing to a subscription will have to buy 60 days worth — no more, no less — and it certainly seems inconvenient for players who like to have options.

It might come down to the fact that subscriptions automatically renew and game time does not. A cautious player might want to buy just 30 days of game time to check out the game without risking forgetting about the subscription renewing.

On stream today, popular WoW stream Asmongold criticized the move, saying the change to Blizzard’s Game Time options is something that no one asked for. He also struggled to find any potential positive impact that the move could have.

On Twitter, he sarcastically replied to the news saying in all caps “THANK YOU BLIZZARD THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!”

Blizzard stresses that those who are still operating under game time purchases at the other increments will not be affected by this change, rather when it’s time to renew they’ll simply need to select the 60 day option or one of the other ways to jump into Azeroth.

Subscription pricing is unaffected, including the bundle rates you get for paying months in advance, which in the long run works out to be cheaper than just buying time upfront. However, many players tend to dip in and out of MMOs over time (WoW or otherwise), so being able to pay for smaller increments of game time is convenient for them. For those who use WoW Tokens to pay for  gametime through the in-game market (or using the tokens for Blizzard Balance) , this change does affect those either.

WoWhead speculates that this change could be a move to fight the World of Warcraft bot, which uses WoW tokens to pay for 30-day passes. These can be used to pay for game time using your Battle.net account balance, but are not accepted as a payment method. For recurring subscriptions. Some players believe this is an activision-Blizzard revenue-boosting move and suffer from the inability to purchase a 30-day pass. This is especially true for players who only occasionally participate in the game.
